Vision & Mission
Our Vision
Alapa Cultural Trust seeks to be a centre where learning is not mechanical, but deeply personal; where Odissi music is experienced not only as an art form but as a way of life. Our vision is to nurture a community of musicians, scholars, and listeners who carry within them a reverence for classical forms, a respect for the Guru-Shishya tradition, and a responsibility to carry forward Odisha's cultural legacy with both purity and creativity.
We imagine a future where every learner can begin their own alapa-an unfolding of self through sound, discipline, and devotion.
To preserve, nurture and promote the rich heritage of Odissi music and allied Indian classical arts for the benefit of present and future generations. We aspire to foster a vibrant ecosystem for education, training and cultural exchange, ensuring the timeless traditions of Odissi thrive locally and globally.
Our Mission
At Alapa, our mission is guided by the belief that music is a sacred practice, meant to elevate, to connect, and to preserve identity. Our goals are deeply rooted in service-to teach, inspire, and spread awareness about the richness of Odissi music, both within India and across the world.
To fulfil this mission, we are committed to:
- Imparting rigorous, tradition-anchored training in Odissi vocal music and Mardal, offering personalised mentorship to students of diverse levels, ages, and backgrounds.
- Upholding the Guru-Shishya parampara, where the teacher-student relationship is one of deep trust, mutual respect, and lifelong dedication to learning.
- Creating opportunities for performance and artistic growth through thoughtfully curated events, festivals, and showcases for both emerging learners and seasoned practitioners.
- Preserving and archiving rare compositions, manuscripts, and recordings, building a living repository to support teaching, research, and intergenerational transmission of knowledge.
- Fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, where every student feels valued, safe, and supported in their unique artistic journey.
- Offering quiet, sensitive engagement to children with autism, using the subtle, meditative power of Odissi music to build connection, comfort, and self-expression.
- Collaborating across disciplines and institutions, connecting with artists, educators, and scholars to enrich understanding and deepen appreciation for Odisha's classical heritage.
Above all, our mission is to ensure that Odissi music continues to resonate-softly yet powerfully-through time, across cultures, and in the hearts of all who encounter its grace and depth.
At Alapa, we carry forward the vision of our founders not merely by preserving a tradition, but by living it, sharing it, and passing it on with care, creativity, and love.
Alapa Cultural Trust is devoted to upholding excellence, integrity, and creativity in everything we do, inspired by the vision of our founders and the passion of our artists.
